WSA finish season in Thunder Bay

WSA Winnipeg 2013 Season Complete

July 25, 2013

WSA Winnipeg wrapped up their 2013 PDL last weekend in Thunder Bay.  The two game weekend series started out great as WSA and the Chill tied 1 - 1 in Friday's game. This is a good result as the Chill finished the season as the top team in the 64 team PDL league. Friday's game remained scoreless till the half with the Chill holding an advantage in shots on goal.  Thunder Bay took the lead in the 54th minute when Sunny Omoregie assisted on Zepahiah Thomas's goal.  It was not until the 84th minute that Ali Musse scored an unassisted goal to bring WSA even at 1 - 1.  After several late surges the game remained a 1- 1 tie and put Thunder Bay's hopes of winning the league title on hold for one more day.

Saturday's game was a different story.  The Chill got off to a fast start scoring four goals in the first twenty-five minutes of the game.  It wasn't till the 36th minute that WSA got on the scoreboard when Hamza Mustapha found the back of the net.

With the score 4 to 1 at half time Coach Eduardo looked to give some of the younger players an opportunity to gain some valuable PDL experience.  Fifteen year old goalie Lucas Del Grosso played the second half of the game obtaining some great experience necessary to continue his development.  "This is a developmental league and Lucas is the future of our team, he did well and gained some game experience" said Coach Eduardo.

The game finished with Thunder Bay scoring a pair of goals in the second half and WSA's Ali Musse scoring in his 6th goal of the season from Moses Danto.

WSA Winnipeg are now taking some time to evaluate the season and have 1 to 1 player evaluations.  Coach Eduardo explained, "We are already beginning to plan for next year. This very young team had the best season in our short PDL history and we look to improve on that next year!"  With players like Ali Musse, Mose Danto, Nathan Douglas, Tyson Farago and Jordan Smith maturing and getting ready to make the next step in their player development we have a solid core for our team explained Coach Eduardo.
