After dropping Saturday's match 3 - 2 to the Kansas City Brass, WSA Winnipeg took the field this afternoon looking for the win and to split the weekend series.  The home team looked to impress their fans and finish the season strong in their final 2013 home match.

Sunday afternoon, at the Waverley pitch, turned out to be another hot and muggy day for the teams, although the weather did not hamper either team as WSA and the Brass set a fast, exciting pace from the opening kick-off.  The match was highly entertaining and the fans were thoroughly enjoying it!

Early in the game the Brass’s superstar, McDevitt, opened the scoring on a through ball from teammate Brock that found its way past Farago in the 11th minute.

Moses_on_the_Run.pngMinutes later, WSA’s Hamza Mustapha was hauled down in the area and WSA was awarded a penalty kick.  Moses Danto took the penaly kick and made no mistake sliding it into the right corner to tie the game at 1 - 1 in the 15th minute.

Just seven minutes later, Nathan Douglas was sent in on a partial breakaway.  He ripped a shot at the goalie who made the save but failed to control the rebound.  That rebound slid right to Aaron Badescu, whose anticipating run putting him in a perfect position... he made no mistake sliding the ball into the net to put WSA up 2-1 in the 21st minute.

WSA's lead was short lived as the Brass responded a couple minutes later when McDevitt fired another ball top corner on Farago from inside the area that tied the game at 2-2 in the 23rd minute.

With the game now tied, Nathan Douglas had a couple of fantastic scoring opportunities, but the Brass slowly took control of the game's momentum. Kansas City scored the goal to put them into the lead inthe 32nd minute when Aguilar placed a one timer shot to the top corner.  Kansas City went into the half with the lead 3 - 2.

WSA Winnipeg coach Eduardo Badescu made 3 inspiring changes at the half and it took the team just 15 minutes to respond when Braden Silva received a ball from Moses Danto.  Silva made no mistake as he scored the equalizer in the 61st minute evening the game at 3-3 with just thirty minutes remaining.

Both teams exchange chance after chance and in the 84th minute, a Brass cross deflects off of WSA defender Omar Amador and into his own goal. WSA went down 4-3 with just 5 minutes to go.

In the 90th minute, a hand ball on called on the Brass brought Moses Danto back to the penalty spot and he made no mistake tying the game at 4-4.  The crowd was ecstatic!

The teams entered added time each looking for the win.  There was just enough extra time for Nathan Douglas to beat the Brass defenders and slide a ball across the six to Danto.  Danto placed it in the back of the net for his 3rd of the night and 5th of the weekend. Mose's five goals and one assist weekend should be good for a player of the week mention for the Heartland Division. His goal came in the 92nd minute and put the home team up 5 - 4 .

Kansas City responded with a late push, however it was Ali Musse who was sent through on a breakaway pass from Jordan Smith.  Musse made no mistake beating the keeper and putting WSA Winnipeg up 6 - 4 which held for the final score of the game.

It is hard to believe but WSA Winnipeg's  6 - 4 win over the Kansas City Brass on Sunday was WSA’s first win at home. Scoring six goals in a single game is an outstanding achievement as goal scoring was an area where the team had struggled in the past.

Coach Eduardo was extremely pleased with his team's performance, "We are one of the youngest, if not the

youngest teams in the PDL with 15, 16 and 17 year old players and today we showed a maturity and determination often reserved for only the most veteran teams!"

WSA Winnipeg will now finish the 2013 season on the road with a two game series versus the Thunder Bay Chill on July 19 and 20.  The team looks to finish the year on a strong, positive note with a couple of wins.  WSA Winnipeg could also achieve a franchise best season record (5-8-1) with the wins.  Hmm… Thunder Bay is only nine hours away!  Maybe it is time for a road trip.

Players of the game were:

Aaron Badescu – 1 goal

Moses Danto – 3 Goals, 1 Assist  (5 Goals, 1 Assist in 2 Games this weekend)
