Wolf Pack drop close game

Demize top Pack in Season Opener

Winnipeg, Manitoba - May 21, 2014

WSA Winnipeg lost their 2014 season opening game 1 - 0 to the Springfield Demize last night at the Cooper Sports Complex in Springfield, Missouri.  A young Wolf Pack team fought hard throughout the game, but fell victim to a header goal by Best off a corner kick in the 35th minute of the game.

Conditions for the game were perfect as both teams exchanged chances in the second half with the Demize finishing with 8 shots on Josh Partaker and the Wolf Pack directing 11 shots at Yuta Nomura.  The close game got a little heated around the 75th minute with cautions handed out to the Packs Paul Delgrosso and Brandon Manzonelli and Sam Fitzgerald of the Demize.  The fiesty play continued and WSA Winnipeg midfielder Ryan Ramjiawan was ejected in the 77th minute.  In all, Springfield finished the game with 12 fouls and Winnipeg with 9 fouls.

The Pack will shake-off the loss as they have little time to lick their wounds as they play Thursday, May 22 in Chicago.  This will be the first ever meeting between the WSA Winnipeg and the Inferno as Chicago was added to the already strong Heartland Division in an off-season realignment of teams.  The Thursday game will be start at 7:30 and be played at Wheaton College. Chicago tied their home last game versus St. Louis 0 - 0, so both teams will be hungry for their first win. Live game updates will be available on Twitter @InfernoMatchDay. The season opening road trip will finish on Saturday, May 24th at 5:00 pm  in St. Louis with the Pack taking on the Lions at Tony Glavin Complex.

Our road harden team will return home for their home opening games the following weekend versus the Thunder Bay Chill on May 31st and June 1st.  Tickets for all home games are available at Red Card, wsawinnipeg.com, or by phoning 204-477-0763 (and as always the gate).
